Bearly Sane ®

Having conducted research into the world of manga, I have based my “Chibi Bears” on the description given by illustrator and author, Christopher Hart in his book Manga Mania Shoujo.

“The chibi’s face is wider than a normal face and the eyes appear lower on the head. The eyes are bigger too, but the mouth and nose are not! Those must remain tiny.

The body is cute and pudgy. The tummy is bigger than the chest. The torso is severely shortened so that there is no waistline. This gives the chibi I low center of gravity. Although chibis are shoujo characters, there is nothing delicate about them. They’re cuddly and round. There hands and fingers, while small, are also on the pudgy side.

Chibis are based on toddlers except the head is vastly oversized in comparison to the body. This exaggeration heightens the adorable quality.”
